UPDATE:

Ben has made it to Chicago for his spring rehabilitation and could not be more grateful for use of the apartment generously donated by Club member and her husband. We still need help supporting the $60,000, 12-week trip Chicago for Ben’s rehab. Please see below on how you can help.

Ben Abercrombie '21 is in Chicago through May 2023 for an intensive 12-week program at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. On behalf of the HCC Board and the Harvard Varsity Club, we are grateful to have secured a donated apartment from one of our Club members.

Together with the Harvard Varsity Club, we would like to raise an additional $60,000  to help defray the costs associated with traveling to Chicago for Ben’s rehabilitation.  We encourage all who are able to participate in this appeal with a donation within your means.  Donate here directly, or through the Donate button below. All gifts are 100% tax-deductible and can be used for this trip - or future trips - to the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago. Thank you for your support!

Please see below for more information on Ben’s journey.

About Ben Abercrombie.

Ben was a two-sport star in football and baseball at Hoover High School in Hoover, Alabama, helping the Buccaneers win Alabama 7A State Championships in both sports (football in 2014 & 2016, baseball in 2017). He was selected All-State first team at the end of his senior year.

Upon arriving at Harvard, Ben quickly became one of the most respected and talented players on the football field and was the only first-year on the defensive side of the ball to make the travel squad for the season opener at the University of Rhode Island. In his collegiate debut, Ben made a tackle that resulted in a catastrophic spinal cord injury and caused him to lose mobility and feeling throughout his body.

Ben is continuing his Harvard education while remaining a member of the Harvard football program. He and his family continue to face an uphill battle, and the Harvard Varsity Club has committed to supporting Ben, and his family, throughout their journey.

Please know that your support means a great deal to Ben and his parents, Marty and Sherri, as Ben continues his Harvard education and recovery.
