November 2023
On November 11, 2023, the HCC and Harvard Law Society of Illinois held a highly successful Early College Awareness (ECA) program for middle school students in collaboration with Illinois Tech. Over 100 students, family members, speakers, and volunteers participated in this event, which was the third in-person event and fourth overall since re-launching the ECA program in 2021. It was also the second annual event held at Illinois Tech.
The Fall 2023 ECA program featured keynote remarks by law professor Cary Martin Shelby, a college student panel with students attending Illinois Tech, Loyola University Chicago, and the University of Chicago, and workshops titled “Scholarships and Financial Aid” for family members hosted by University of Chicago and Illinois Tech financial aid officers and “Choosing a College Major” for students hosted by Illinois Tech students.
April 2023
On April 29, 2023, the HCC and Harvard Law Society of Illinois held a successful Early College Awareness (ECA) program for middle school students in collaboration with the University of Chicago Office of Civic Engagement - College Access and Readiness and Neighborhood Schools Program (NSP). This event was the second in-person event and third overall since re-launching the ECA program in 2021.
This event featured keynote remarks by civil rights attorney Quinn K. Rallins, a college student ambassador panel with students and representatives from the University of Chicago, Harold Washington College, Illinois Tech, and Kennedy-King College, and a workshop titled “Demystifying the College Application” hosted by University of Chicago students and staff.
November 2022
On November 5, 2022, the Harvard Club of Chicago and Harvard Law Society of Illinois, in collaboration with Illinois Tech, hosted an in-person Early College Awareness event for Chicago-area middle school students at IllinoisTech's campus.
The event featured keynote remarks by Herschella G. Conyers, Clinical Professor of Law at the University of Chicago Law School; a panel featuring admissions officers and representatives from Harold Washington College, Illinois Tech, the University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois Chicago; and a panel featuring students attending Illinois Tech, Northwestern University, and the University of Chicago.
November 2021
On November 6, 2021, the Harvard Club of Chicago hosted an Early College Awareness event for middle school students in Chicago (recordings below).
Part 1 of this event is a keynote speech by Andrea Jamison, PhD, Assistant Professor at Illinois State University. Part 2 of this event is a panel featuring admissions officers from Harvard University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Part 3 is a panel featuring students attending Columbia College, Harvard University, and the University of Chicago.
